Spanish Language Resources

¡Hola Familias!

If you are looking for resources at home for your child to keep learning Spanish--or maybe to learn some more yourself!--look no further! Here are some great resources that you can check out. Enjoy!

Netflix in Spanish

Did you know you can change your Netflix settings to Spanish? Here are the instructions on how to do so! (Now both you and your child can enjoy more shows in Spanish--actually, Netflix has a lot of shows in Spanish anyways!)

Highlights Bilingüe Magazine

We've gotten the Highlights High Five Bilingüe magazine since my kids were really little, and we LOVE them. I have some of them in the classroom too! I highly recommend subscribing to this magazine--your child will receive twelve issues with Spanish-only, bilingual, and English-only stories, puzzles, and activities.

Songs in Spanish

Here is a great website with links to songs in Spanish by theme, including colors, numbers, animals, alphabet, and traditional songs. Even if you just put on music in Spanish in the background during a specific time of day--making dinner, getting ready for bed, playing after school--you'll be surprised at how much you can pick up!

One of my all-time favorite kids' musician in Spanish is 123Andrés, a Latin Grammy award-winning artist who has come to Holland to perform a couple of times in the past year! His songs are fun, catchy, and have lots of authentic rhythms, from salsa to mariachi to cumbia to el danzón. I own several of his CDs, which I play frequently in class, and we also use Canta las Letras to learn about letter sounds, names, and handwriting. My own kids also LOVE his music!

For even more songs in Spanish, I HIGHLY recommend ¡A Bailar! by Jorge Anaya and ¡Muévete! by Spanish Playground. On these two lists, you'll find songs you recognize such as "The Wheels on the Bus" and "If you're Happy and you Know it", and others that you may hear your child singing at home, like "Los Deditos". I also love Cri Cri, a Mexican singer from the 1950s-70s who performed ballad-type songs. I play his music a lot in the background when we are working or playing. Enjoy! :)

YouTube Channels

Here are some of my favorite YouTube channels for learning Spanish:

-Super Simple Español: Like the name, these songs are super simple, catchy, and cute! Many songs are ones your kids already know in English.

-ChuChuTV Español: More fun songs with educational themes, such as colors and numbers.

-Pocoyo Español: This is a TV show (you may have seen it in English), but is pretty easy to understand and has lots of clear visuals. You can also use the "settings" button on YouTube to slow down the speaking!

-Pequeños Héroes: A series of Bible stories for kids in Spanish, with some catchy songs!

-Biper y sus Amigos: A collection of Christian songs and music featuring a cartoon character named Biper and his friends (this series is from Argentina!).
