30 de marzo - 2 de abril

¡Hola Familias!

We had a great week! Today we had a great day celebrating el día sin zapatos for reaching our March Spanish goal! We also had fun with barn chores, enjoyed a Resurrection Walk with pictures of Holy Week, led worship during Chapel, and did lots more learning and playing with friends this week.

Here's an update on our week...

Reading / Lectura: This week we reviewed the sound /k/ with syllables ka, ke, ki, ko, ku. We'll continue working on this sound (along with letters "c" and "q") when we come back from break!

Writing / Escritura: We continued working on how-to writing this week. This time, we started thinking about things we know how to do, such as make a snowman, draw a picture of a rainbow or house, or jump rope. The kids practiced using sequence words to tell the steps, and then they started writing their own how-to books. They are doing a fantastic job with this! We'll finish this project after break.

Math / Matemáticas: This week we practiced addition and subtraction problems, writing equations, and recognizing numbers.

Bible / Biblia: We finished our resurrection eggs project. It was a beautiful experience to walk through the story of the resurrection with the kids. We are in awe of Jesus' love for us, so great that he chose to come live in this world and die on the cross for our sins. ¡Gloria a Dios!

Social Studies / Estudios Sociales: This week we learned about our flag and how it was made, as well as the life cycle of a chicken.

Immersion Tip of the Week

Have your child be the "language teacher" in your house one evening. Encourage him/her to teach you some new words or phrases. Let your child show off and be the expert. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and laugh as you learn. Most importantly, have fun!

Reading Tip of the Week

In some of our reading groups, we've worked on developing fluency when we read. Fluency is reading like talking--not too quickly, but also not in a choppy way. When you read to your child, read with lots of expression to model this!

Lunch Helpers Needed!

I am serving on a committee that is meeting Thursdays during lunchtime. I'm looking for parent volunteers who can cover lunch (11:40-12:15) on the following dates:

-Thursday, April 16th

-Thursday, April 23rd

-Thursday, April 30th

Let me know if you can help with any of them--thank you for considering!!

SI Summer Camp

Have you signed up your child(ren) for our SI summer camp yet? If not, there's still time! The camp will run June 15-18 from 9:00-12:00 Monday-Thursday. Here is the link to sign up, and you may drop your check off in the office. It's going to be great!

From the Office

  • Upcoming Dates:

    • April 27 - May 8: Swim Lessons 1st - 4th at Holland Aquatic Center

  • Tulip Time is coming! If you have a 1st through 4th grade student, please select how they plan to participate in the Tulip Time parade by using this form!

  • Book Fair: Exciting news… we have a new book fair company this year—Literati—and the online fair is officially live! Shopping online is a great way to find books that won’t be available at the in-person fair. It’s also the best way to purchase from teacher wishlists, since some of those titles may not be on-site. A special bonus: Gift cards are available online! This makes it easy for students to shop at the fair without bringing cash to school. Start browsing here: https://literati.com/store/?school=rose-park-christian-school-holland-mi Happy reading!

    • On Thursday, April 23 we will host “Lunch with a Loved One” from 11:15-12:15 in the small gym. This is a time to join your student(s) for lunch and to shop the book fair together!

    • Additional in-person book fair hours will be: Wednesday April 22 from 2-4pm, Thursday April 23 from 10:30-12:30 & 2-4pm, Friday April 24 from 2-4pm;  we would love to have you stop by at any of those times.

Have a wonderful Spring Break, familias! I wish you a joyous time with family, whether you are staying home or traveling. I look forward to seeing your child back at school on Monday, March 13th.
