1-5 de diciembre

 ¡Hola Familias!

¡Ya llegó Diciembre! December is here! It is a very busy time of the year, but such an exciting one too! The kids are filled with joy, excitement, and anticipation. We have lots to do in the next few weeks before la Navidad!

This week we had a wonderful time on our trip to the Critter Barn on Thursday! We got to see the Live Nativity and lots of animales! We also had the opportunity to virtually "meet" the Chan family, who are missionaries in Guatemala. You'll find more information about them, as well as a short video showing a little more about their work, on the Cookie Sale invitation your child brought home today. We're so excited to bless them with the proceeds from our Cookie Sale coming up next Thursday!

Here are more updates from our week...

Reading / Lectura: This week we learned the syllables la, le, li, lo, lu. The kids have been establishing great reading behaviors in their small reading groups, and you have seen a few books start to fill their book bags. Please continue to read with your child and record it on the orange recording sheet! We also started exploring pattern books this week, which the kids LOVE because they feel so successful when they can read a whole book by themselves. They are making great progress!

Writing / Escritura: This week we have also started to write our own pattern books. The kids have started planning and crafting their own books titled Te Amo... (I love you...), and Yo Puedo... (I can...) based on pattern books we have read.

Math / Matemáticas: We have been exploring lots of math concepts this week, including the +1/-1 patterns, solving simple addition and subtraction problems, and exploring how to form numbers from 10-20. We also had some fun making some fun Christmas crafts and in our new Christmas centers!

Bible / Biblia: We learned how God was faithful to los israelitas when they conquered the city of Jericó. Josué trusted in God and obeyed him, and the walls fell down--¡se cayeron!

Cookie Sale: Thursday, December 11th!

Our cookie sale is next week! We are so excited for this event. We'll be making cookies in the classroom on Wednesday afternoon, and our sale will begin around 9:00am on Thursday! Please feel free to stop by to buy cookies and donate to a great cause. THANK YOU to all of the parents who are helping to make this event a success!

Class Christmas Party: Wednesday, December 17th!

Our class Christmas party will take place on Wednesday, December 17th from 2:15-3:00pmWe will be doing a class gift exchange, so each child will need to bring in a wrapped $5 gift. Boys' gifts can be labeled "para un niño" and girls' gifts can be labeled "para una niña". If you would like to help out at our party, either by volunteering or by sending in treats, please see our signup here!

SI Christmas Concert: Tuesday, December 9th!

We are excited to share the good news of Jesus' birth with you during our Christmas program this coming Tuesday, December 9! Please have your child arrive between 6:00 - 6:10pm so we can get them ready. You may enter Door D at the High School (off 40th St) and we will meet your child in the lecture hall. Some students will be in costume, but everyone is encouraged to dress in their Sunday best.

From the Office

  • Upcoming Dates:

    • Christmas Vacation: December 22- January 2

  • Coats, please! As the weather cools down, we want to make sure all our Rose Park kids stay cozy outside. If the temperature is 50 degrees or below, students are asked to wear a coat for recess. Please send a coat with your child each day so they can stay warm and enjoy their time outdoors. Thank you!

  • Christmas Spirit Week: To get in the spirit of Christmas, we are going to have some fun, themed days our last week of school before Christmas Break, December 15-19. Here's what we (along with all of the other HC elementary schools) have planned:

  • 12/15 Monday: Christmas headgear (antlers, hats, headbands)

  • 12/16 Tuesday: Christmas sweater

  • 12/17 Wednesday: Red/green day

  • 12/18 Thursday: Christmas socks

  • 12/19 Friday: Christmas PJs

  • The Kindergarten classes are getting excited for our annual Cookie Sale, which is coming up on Thursday, December 11th! This year our proceeds will go to the Chan family. Noé and Kathlyn Chan, along with their two daughters Haddie and Alizah, are missionaries in Guatemala, serving God by using their gifts in art and physical therapy. They became friends with Maestra Klipp Lopez while her family was serving in Guatemala, and we are so excited to come alongside and support their family! The Cookie Sale will begin at 9:00am and cookies will cost 50 cents each. Below is more information about the Chan family and their ministry:
