¡Hola Familias!
¡Ya llegó Diciembre! December is here! It is a very busy time of the year, but such an exciting one too! The kids are filled with joy, excitement, and anticipation. We have lots to do in the next few weeks before la Navidad!
This week we had a fun-filled pajama day on Thursday to celebrate us reaching our November Spanish goal! The kids have been working HARD to speak more and more Spanish in class, and I am so proud of them. Let's keep up the great work!
Here are more updates from our week...
Reading / Lectura: This week we learned the syllables ta, te, ti, to, tu. The kids have been establishing great reading behaviors in their small reading groups, and you have seen quite a few books start to fill their book bags. Please continue to read with your child EVERY day and record it on the orange recording sheet! We also started exploring pattern books this week, which the kids LOVE because they feel so successful when they can read a whole book by themselves. They are making great progress!
Writing / Escritura: Following our reading lessons exploring pattern books, we have also started to write our own pattern books. The kids have been planning and crafting their own books titled Yo Puedo (I can), Te Amo... (I love you...), and Yo Veo (I see) based on pattern books we have read.
Math / Matemáticas: We have been exploring lots of math concepts this week, including the +1/-1 patterns, pennies and nickels, and solving simple addition problems. We also had some fun making some fun Christmas crafts!
Bible / Biblia: This week we learned how Moisés trusted in God to lead the people across el Mar Rojo, or the Red Sea. Our God is incredible! We have also started practicing for our Christmas program, where we will be acting out the Christmas story.
Cookie Sale: Thursday, December 8th!
Our cookie sale is coming up next Thursday! I still need some parents to sign up to help out our class? Is anyone willing to send in ingredients to make cookies on Wednesday, or to help set up on Thursday morning? Our class would GREATLY appreciate it! SIGN UP HERE!
SI Christmas Concert: Tuesday, December 13th!
We have been getting ready for our Spanish Immersion Christmas concert and we are so excited! More details coming soon!
Class Christmas Party: Thursday, December 15th!
Our class Christmas party will take place on Thursday, December 15th from 2:15-3:00pm. We will be doing a class gift exchange, so each child will need to bring in a wrapped $5 gift. Boys' gifts can be labeled "para un niño" and girls' gifts can be labeled "para una niña". If you would like to help out at our party, either by volunteering or by sending in treats, please see our signup here!
Our friend and local artist Carolyn Stich sent an email of gratitude sharing that the artwork our students contributed last year helped raise more than $600 for Kids Food Basket. Food insecurities for children in our area is sky rocketing along with our rising food prices. Would you be willing to offer this project to your class again this month? Carolyn would be so grateful for the help in sharing artwork from local artists: our students. Details are on the attached flyer. Thank you for considering this project that allows our children to use their gifts in a way that will impact hungry children in our community. I believe THIS is one of the most important 'whys' to Christian Education. Why do we grow and expand on the gifts and talents God blesses us each with uniquely? That we might bring the love and grace of Christ to this hurting world. That we might be a bit of shalom from God to the many places of chaos. Please bring completed artwork to the office. Students may turn these into the office by December 12th. The details are below:
