We had another great week in Spanish Immersion Kindergarten! Can you believe we've been in school for 100 days?! We had a fun celebration this week doing lots of "100" activities in reading, math, writing, and more!
This is a really great time of the school year; I am seeing so much growth in every area--reading, writing math, and especially in the Spanish language!
Here is a summary of what we've been up to in the classroom...
Reading / Lectura: We learned about the sound /k/ this week, which is made by 3 different letters in the Spanish alphabet: c, k, and qu. We have also been studying different forms of verbs (the endings change depending on the person) and talking about characters' feelings in the books we read together.
Writing / Escritura: This week we continued talking about los sentimientos, or feelings. The kids drew and wrote about different feelings they've had, describing why they felt that way. It is so fun to hear them express themselves and talk about moments in their lives! We are going to expand on one of their ideas next week.
Math / Matemáticas: We've been working on classifying objects into different categories, recognizing numbers quickly as a 5-group plus more, and solving addition and subtraction problems.
Bible / Biblia: This week the kids learned about el Rey Salomón, who asked God for sabiduría (wisdom). God then blessed him with material wealth as well. We had a lot of fun working in cooperative groups to build un templo like Salomón built during his reign as king of Israel.
Science / Ciencias: This week we continued our discussion of force and motion, exploring how we can make objects move faster and farther by pushing or pulling harder. We also had a great time planting seeds in our invernadero (greenhouse)! We decided as a class which seeds would be best to plant, depending on days to germination, and decided on cherry tomatoes, green beans, snow peas, lettuce, and sunflowers. We'll be monitoring our seeds to watch for growth!
Valentine's Day / El Día de San Valentín
We are looking forward to this fun day as a class exchanging valentines together. Your child may label his/her valentines "para un amigo", OR he/she may write names on them; however, it is best to only write classmates' names if your child can read them! Candies are fine, but non-candy "treats" are great too!
The friends in our class are: Lincoln, Jeremiah, Wesley, Elena, Zyon, Kaden, Keegan, Lorelai, Sarah, Harrison, Brooklyn, Angelina, Olivia, Anya, and Jack.
