20-21 de noviembre

¡Hola Familias!

We had a short week this week, but it was full of fun and exciting activities! We enjoyed making a special craft this week of colorful maíz (corn), and we had a great time experimenting with Orbeez today!

This week we spent most of our time reviewing concepts. We also spent time talking about things we are thankful for as we prepare for Thanksgiving. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have such a wonderful group of kids this year! They are learning so much and I am so proud of them.

I won't go into each subject in this post, but please read some general announcements below:

Book Bags

Your child should have 3 books in his/her book bag. Please make sure it comes to school in his/her folder every day! I will be checking the orange paper as well, so make sure to record when your child reads book bag books to you at home. I encourage you to help your child practice over break! It is exciting to see them starting to "take off" with their reading.

Cookie Sale

Sending out the link again for the Cookie Sale! Can you help out in our classroom or by sending in cookies? We appreciate all your help to make this event a success!

Library Books

Many kids have overdue library books. Please send your child's books back after Thanksgiving break. If children still have overdue books next week on Thursday, they will not be able to check out any more books. ¡Gracias!

Vase

We will be making Christmas centerpieces after Thanksgiving break! Please send in a glass vase (about 10 inches tall and 3 inches wide) for your child to use for this activity. We hope to complete the project during the last week of November, so please plan on having your child bring it in on Monday or Tuesday.

That's all I have for now! Wishing you and your family a very happy Día de Acción de Gracias--Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy the time of making great memories and spending time together as a family. See you next Monday!

13-17 de noviembre

¡Hola Familias!

We had a beautiful week! We've been busy learning, playing, and working together every day. One of the highlights of our week was participating in "Sing, Move, and Memorize" with many other classes from Rose Park. We learned verses from Psalm 100, or Salmo 100, in English and español! It is a joy to learn God's word together! Another fun activity was our Thanksgiving Chapel on Thursday. We took a "thankfulness walk" as a school and wrote little books about things we are thankful for.

Here are some more updates from our week:

Reading / Lectura: This week we learned the syllables with N: na, ne, ni, no, nu. We have also been enjoying acting out stories and talking like characters from the books we read. On Friday we made puppets to act out parts of our stories--the kids loved doing this!

Writing / Escritura: We are having a great time writing our libros de listas! We've been working on writing words on every page and adding more pictures and details.

Math / Matemáticas
: We have been working on telling story problems using objects, especially objects focused around a dinner table (lots of vocabulary here!). We have also practiced writing numbers, recognizing shapes, and classifying objects into groups.

Bible / Biblia: We learned how God provided for the israelitas in the desert by providing maná, codornices (quail), y agua de la roca.

Immersion Tip of the Week

Have your child be the "teacher" at home. If you are new to Spanish, ask your child to teach you some words/phrases. If you speak the language, ask your child to describe what we have been learning at school. Celebrate the amazing growth your child is making!

Reading Tip of the Week

As you read together, have your child notice the pictures in books. See if he/she can match a picture with a word by identifying the beginning sound. For example, "I see a baby on this page. B-b-baby begins with the letter B. Can you find that word in this sentence?" This is an important skill for emerging readers!

Kindergarten Cookie Sale!

Our annual Kindergarten Cookie Sale is coming up! See a flyer below with more information. Also, we'll need LOTS of parent help for this amazing event, whether it be providing cookies, sending ingredients, or preparing cookies with the kindergarteners in our classroom! Please sign up here to help out. Thank you in advance!

SI Christmas Concert

See details for our SI Christmas Concert below!

Student Absences and Illness: Parents, if your student is absent for any reason, please make sure to contact the office at rp@hollandchristian.org naming also the reason for their absence. If your child is sick please inform us in the email or phone call if the symptoms are cold/flu or stomach. That is helpful information as we try to avoid spread within classrooms! As we’re entering cold/flu season, a gentle reminder that we require a 24-hour fever/puke-free window to ensure your child is healthy and ready to re-engage in learning!

Mocha & Merch Open House: Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 29 from 4:00pm -

Lost and found table: We have a lost and found table near the office, and it’s overflowing with items. If your students are missing something have them check the lost and found or feel free to stop in to check as well!

Paperwork Updates: As the office works to make sure all of our files are up to date, you may notice forms coming home in your students backpack in the next few weeks. If you notice these forms in your child's backpack please return them to school as soon as you are able.
