17-21 de noviembre

¡Hola Familias!

We've had a great week in Kindergarten! On Monday, we had the chance to participate in Bible memorization with our friends from 5th grade. On Tuesday, we got to do some rainy barn chores. All week, we've been working hard to hablar en Español (speak in Spanish) to color spaces on a pavo (turkey)--when we finish, we'll celebrate with a fun surprise activity!

Here is more information about our week:

Reading / Lectura: We've been learning the syllables with t: ta, te, ti, to, tu. The kids are getting to be quicker to recognize and write syllables correctly! We've also been studying the book Gracias, Omu and will perform a reader's theater next week to act out this story of sharing and generosity.

Writing / Escritura: We're working hard at our libros de listas, or books of lists. The kids have been really successful writing words and drawing pictures using categories, such as los colores, las figuras (shapes), la comida (food), and more!

Math / Matemáticas: This week we continued practicing the +1 and -1 patterns. We're also learning about shapes and their different attributes.

Bible / Biblia: This week we learned about los israelitas going to la Tierra Prometida, or the Promised Land, that God had prepared for them. We learned how many of them were afraid of the "giants" in the land and did not trust in God, even after all that God had done for them. We also learned about how Rajab (Rahab) helped the spies, and how God protected her and her family. God has a purpose and a plan for every one of us!

Science / Ciencias: This week we enjoyed a fun activity with our buddies making alfeñique, a traditional paste-like sweet made with powdered sugar and lime juice and molded to look like fruits or other objects. It was a fun and sweet activity for all! ;)

Lunch Helper

My lunch helper signup is looking a little empty--would you consider filling in a spot? We'd love to have you join us for lunchtime!

Child Advocacy Center Visit

As part of our mission to equip minds and nurture hearts to transform the world for Jesus Christ, HC works to provide students with the knowledge and skills to guard themselves in this fallen world. Part of HC’s commitment to student safety is providing counsel and resources for sexual abuse prevention and intervention from the Children’s Advocacy Center. Please see the attached informed consent letter for more information. The Children’s advocacy center will not be sharing any videos during their lessons at Holland Christian.

If you have any questions about the content of the presentation, we encourage you to reach out to the Children’s Advocacy Center. If you would like your child to not participate in the presentation, please fill out this form at least one week prior to the presentation date. HC will anticipate participation unless they receive a submitted opt-out form.

Our classroom presentation will be on Wednesday, December 10th from 8:20-8:50am.

We will do a few short classroom activities to follow up in the weeks after.

Kindergarten Cookie Sale!

The Kindergarten classes are getting excited for our annual Cookie Sale, which is coming up on Thursday, December 11th! This year our proceeds will go to the Chan family. Noé and Kathlyn Chan, along with their two daughters Haddie and Alizah, are missionaries in Guatemala, serving God by using their gifts in art and physical therapy. They became friends with Maestra Klipp Lopez while her family was serving in Guatemala, and we are so excited to come alongside and support their family! (See photo below for more information about the Chan family's ministry!)

We will need LOTS of hands for this amazing project! Would you consider providing cookies for our sale or offering your time to help us make cookies in class? Fill out our signup HERE!

Critter Barn Field Trip: December 4th

The Kindergarten classes will be taking a field trip together on Thursday, December 4th to see the Live Nativity, as well as to enjoy the farm and do a craft together. We will leave school at 8:30 and return by 11:15. Parents are welcome to meet us at the Critter Barn to ensure we have adequate space on the bus for the 3 Kindergarten classes. Parents who join us will also need to pay $10 for their entrance to the Critter Barn (the students' payment is covered). If you are planning on joining us at the farm, please let me know via email! ONLY parents may join for this activity; no younger siblings--sorry!
