25-27 de noviembre

¡Hola Familias!

¡Feliz día de acción de gracias! Happy Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for each one of you and the joy it is for me to teach your child this year. I wish you a wonderful time of great food and fellowship with your family and loved ones.

I'll give you a few highlights of this short week below:

*We made posters for our Cookie Sale (coming up next Thursday!). We're excited to use the money we make to purchase animals for families in need through World Vision.

*We enjoyed the first graders' teaching about Sukkot during chapel. What an amazing ceremony!

*I did the first set of running records (for reading levels) with the kiddos. They did a great job! I'll be adjusting their reading groups next week based on levels. If you're curious to know how your child is reading, let me know!

*We practiced for our Christmas concert, coming up on Thursday, December 5th at 6:30pm! Can't wait to see you there!

*We wrote books about what we see, what we love, and what we are thankful for. Have your child read his/her book to you at home!

*We had a fun Turkey Trot around the playground with the rest of the school on Wednesday. There was even a live turkey running with us! (Can you guess who she is in the picture above?)

As mentioned above, don't forget about our Cookie Sale and our Christmas Concert, both next week on Thursday!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

18-22 de noviembre

¡Hola Familias!

The first graders are preparing to celebrate the ancient Hebrew feast of Sukkot next week, and I have been admiring the sukas that they built in our small gym. These small "houses" are filled with pictures and display words such as "Thankfulness/ Agradecimiento", "Community/ Comunidad", and "Hospitality/ Hospitalidad". These words resonate with me so much this week, as I am SO thankful for this wonderful community we have built together at Rose Park. I enjoyed so much spending time with you at our SI Potluck, hear your stories, and see relationships being built. That's what it's all about!

Here are a few highlights from our week:

*On Wednesday at chapel, we had a beautiful service together with the Beautiful Gate school in Lesotho (in the middle of South Africa). I especially loved looking for the country on our map afterwards and talking about how someday God will use each one of these precious children to do His work--there, here, or somewhere else!

*On Thursday, the SI classes enjoyed a special visit from 3 middle school students from Costa Rica! They performed a few traditional dances for us and then we did a writing and reading activity together. What a fun way to learn about another country where people speak español! (More photos + a video below!)

Bible: We've started to practice for our Christmas program (we're so excited!!). We also learned this week about Gedeón, Sansón, y Rut. Can you figure out these names in English? Ask your child to tell you about these heroes from the Old Testament!

Reading: This week we studied the syllables la, le, li, lo, lu and practiced differentiating between singular and plural adjetivos and sustantivos (nouns).

Writing: We finished our unit on sentimientos (feelings), wrote about different feelings, and wrote about our favorite parts of a book.

Math: We're starting to talk more about teen numbers and seeing the 10-group inside these numbers. We've also started using the Freckle app. I'll send out instructions next week so you can check this app out at home!

Upcoming Dates to Remember/ Announcements

*Cookie Sale: Thank you so much to all of you who have signed up to help with this event on Thursday, December 5th! If you have not done so yet, here is the link!

*Christmas Concert: We can't wait to celebrate the birth of Christ on the same day (Thursday, December 5th) at 6:30pm (sorry, I had the wrong time on earlier blog posts!). Please have your child wear a nice Christmas outfit to this event. I hope your child was excited to give you the invitations we made in class!

*Wednesday, November 27th: Half Day (11:30 dismissal)

*Thursday/Friday, November 28th/29th: No school; Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday!
