 ¡Hola Familias!

¡Feliz día del amor y de la amistad! Or, ¡Feliz día de San Valentín! I love that in Latin American countries, Valentine's Day also celebrates love and friendship. We celebrated that today and every day this week! I've been so blessed to be able to watch your kids grow. Their love, kind words, enthusiasm, and excitements never ceases to touch my heart too. :)

Here's an update from our busy week...

Reading / Lectura: This week we studied the syllables with ñ: ña, ñe, ñi, ño, ñu. If you are unfamiliar with the Spanish alphabet, this letter makes the sound /ny/, like in the English word "onion". We have also been learning about verbos reflexivos, or reflexive verbs, in Spanish, such as me lavo las manos, or "I wash my hands" (i.e. an action you do to yourself). I know, it sounds pretty heavy, but we have fun learning about it! ;)

Writing / Escritura
: To continue our instructivo, or how-to, unit, the kids spent this week brainstorming a topic to write their own How-To book. They made a list of ideas, chose their favorite, planned their topic, and wrote their book. It has been great to see so much growth in our little writers throughout this unit!

Math / Matemáticas: We've been reviewing the concepts we learned, such as parts of numbers, counting from 1-100, and forming numbers from 11-20 using a ten and ones. We also started a new unit in which we will begin adding and subtracting with larger numbers. Finally, today on our field trip we did some activities to practice length, weight, and measurement!

Bible / Biblia: This week we have paused with our regular curriculum to prepare for our class Chapel video, which will be coming up in a few weeks. The kids are super excited about it! We've been acting, singing, reading, and making art--you'll have to see our video when it comes out!

Immersion Tip of the Week

Are you as amazed and excited about your child's learning journey as I am? Tell a friend! Spread the word to help our program continue to grow and thrive in the coming years. We are still accepting students for kindergarten next year!

Reading Tip of the Week

When reading with your child this week, ask him/her to retell the story to you in order after you finish it. Or, ask: "What happened at the beginning? The middle? The end?" Sequencing and retelling stories are important reading comprehension skills for your child to practice in English AND Spanish!

Optional Discipleship Practices At Home Activities During Lent
As we begin the journey to the cross through Lent, we want to walk with you and center ourselves around Christ; his death and resurrection. To do that together, on weekdays we will be posting on social media and the HC website, a short Bible passage and some conversation questions that revolve around Discipleship Practices (behaviors that are rooted in the Bible, Church History, and are used as our integration of faith in all that we do at HC). This is not a checklist, or to-do list, but simply a way we can partner together as we worship Christ in all things.
