28 de febrero - 4 de marzo

 ¡Hola Familias!

Wow, it finally feels like spring is coming! Although I do enjoy a snowy winter, it has been such a blessing to see and feel the warm sun this week! As we look forward to celebrating Jesus' death and resurrection during the Easter season, we are reminded of God's promise to give us new life. I am thankful for this promise!

We have had a full and busy week in kindergarten! One of the highlights of our week was out campfire and s'mores celebration on Tuesday (see some more cute pictures below!). Here is a glimpse of what else we've been up to...

Reading / Lectura: This week we practiced words with the syllables with ñ: ña, ñe, ñi, ño, ñu. I have been challenging the kids to write longer, more complicated words with these syllables, as well as sentences! We have also been studying nonfiction books--what they are, characteristics of nonfiction, what we can learn from them, and how to share our learning with our partners.

Writing / Escritura: We wrapped up our unit on small moments and 3-part stories by revising our work with a partner, reflecting on our writing, and presenting our stories to the class. I have enjoyed hearing about the kids' ideas in their stories!

Math / Matemáticas: This week we've been working on comparing numbers using the terms mayor (greater) and menor (less). We have also been working on parts of number, focusing on parts of 10. Also, we started exploring 3-dimensional shapes, such as la esfera (sphere), el cilindro (cylinder), el cono (cone), and el cubo (cube).

Bible / Biblia: This week we read stories about Elías y Eliseo (Elijah and Elishah). We learned how Elías was taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire and Eliseo stayed behind to continue his work. We also learned the stories of Eliseo and the widow and how Eliseo helped the couple who prepared a room where he could stay.

Social Studies: We learned from Mrs. Erin Johnson about accepting differences and a little more about Down syndrome, as March is Down syndrome awareness month. We also read the story of Ruby Bridges and talked about how she showed Christ's love to others by praying for her enemies--a powerful story!

Immersion Tip of the Week

I encourage you to help your child continue to hear and speak Spanish this week, whether it be watching a video, going to a place where there are Spanish speakers, or talking with a friend or family member! Language learning never stops, even outside of the classroom!

Reading Tip of the Week

Visit the library this week (or sometime this month) and check out some new books! Try some easy readers in English, or in Spanish (the Holland public library has a good selection of Spanish books--check out the Vox books that read to you). Get excited about starting a new book or a new series with your child!

Field Trip Monday!

On Monday we are going to the Grand Rapids Children's Museum!! We will leave right away in the morning, as close to 8:30 as possible. Please make sure your child arrives at school by 8:15! Also, please pack a HOME LUNCH for your child on Monday. We will eat lunch at the museum and arrive back to school around 1:45. Can't wait!

Spring Weather & Winter Clothes

As the weather gets warmer outside, kids tend to want to shed their winter clothes quickly! Our rule at Rose Park regarding coats is that if it is under 50 degrees, kids are still required to wear them. If it is warmer out but still under 50, you might want to have your child bring a lighter coat. Also, please continue to send boots, as it is often muddy outside!

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the nice weather!
