16-20 de mayo

¡Hola Familias!

Man, this school year sure seems to have flown by! Today I was able to welcome my new kindergarteners into the classroom for a short time in the morning (our class did some fun centers in another classroom). I can't believe we're already wrapping up our year! The kids are SUPER excited to be first graders next year, and I am excited for them too!

We enjoyed a fun field trip to see los tulipanes and to play at Window on the Waterfront on Tuesday. Here is more about what we've been learning this week...

Reading / Lectura: This week we have focused on syllables with the letter ll, which in Spanish makes the /y/ sound. We are also continuing our study on characters and focusing on the main idea of a story.

Writing / Escritura: Continuing our study of opinion writing, this week the kids did a project where they wrote about the best pet. They practiced brainstorming and planning their writing, as well as proofreading and presenting to the class.

Math / Matemáticas: We have been reviewing the concepts mayor y menor (greater and less), as well as telling and solving number stories.

Bible / Biblia: This week we learned more milagros y parábolas of Jesus--the healing of the blind man, the Good Samaritan, and the story of the lost sheep. We also learned the story of Martha y María and how it is important to be still and listen to God's voice--a very good reminder for me too! ;)

Book Bag Books

If your child is finished with any paper books (the kind that they take home in their book bags), would you mind sending them back to school this coming week? I'd love to recycle them and use   next year. Don't worry if the book is written in or used--send it back anyways! If your child is still reading his/her books regularly, please feel free to keep them!

Summer Tutoring Opportunity

Are you interested in giving your child extra reading practice over the summer? Look no further! Our wonderful interventionist and threeschool teacher, Maestra Rodriguez, is offering one-on-one reading tutoring this summer. See the graphic at right or email arodriguez@hollandchristian.org for more information!

Plant Sale!  On Wednesday morning, May 25, the 4th graders (in conjunction with the HCHS life skills students), will be hosting a plant sale at Rose Park.  Please plan to purchase your tomato, pepper, and herb plants there!  The sale will begin at 7:30 and go through mid- to late morning.  All plants are $3 each (cash only please!).  Proceeds will be donated to HCS Unified Sports Teams.  Spread the word!

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, and enjoy more photos from this week below!
