¡Hola Familias!
We are closing out on another fantastic week of kindergarten, with only two more to go--can you believe it?! Today I had a chance to welcome my new kindergarten students into the classroom while the class went with Maestra De Leon, and I was remembering how not too long ago I was welcoming this sweet group of kids to kindergarten as well! I will miss them, but I am so thankful for the wonderful year we've had together!
One of the fun activities we got to do this week was welcome a group of students from the El Puente school in Costa Rica. They performed a typical dance for our class (as well as the second grade class), and then we were able to talk with them and ask questions in small groups. It was an exciting time of learning and practicing our conversation skills!
Here are some more details about what we've been doing this week...
Reading / Lectura: This week we focused on the syllables lla, lle, lli, llo, llu (can be a /y/ or a soft /j/ sound). We have also been talking about characters (personajes) this week--how they feel, what they do, how they change in a story. We've also been working on studying the pictures on a cover and making predictions about what the story will be about.
Writing / Escritura: This week we finished our nonfiction animal books and presented them to the class. The kids are SO proud of their writing, and they have grown so much this year!
Math / Matemáticas: We finished our books of numbers from 11-20 this week. We've also been working on reviewing addition and subtraction problems, comparing numbers, and solving number story problems.
Bible / Biblia: We have been continuing to learn about the miracles and parables of Jesus. This week we learned how our good Father always welcomes us back, even when we stray away, illustrated in the parable of the prodigal son. We are so thankful for these promises!
Book Fair
The book fair has come to Rose Park, and the kids are excited! Next week the kids will visit the book fair on Tuesday morning to create "wish lists". You are welcome to visit the book fair with your child before or after school (please see yellow paper your child brought home for hours) to purchase books. By supporting our book fair, you are helping our school buy more books for our libraries!
Book Bag Books
If your child is finished with any paper books (the kind that they take home in their book bags), would you mind sending them back to school this coming week? I'd love to recycle them and use next year. Don't worry if the book is written in or used--send it back anyways! If your child is still reading his/her books regularly, please feel free to keep them!
Summer Camp Supplies Needed
Summer is almost here and we are enthusiastically preparing for summer camp! If you would be willing to help us out with some recyclables between now and the end of the year our camp kids would appreciate it!
*Any size cardboard tubes (toilet, paper towel, etc...)
*cardboard boxes (cereal, granola bar, fruit snack, etc..)
*Cleaned (with soap and water) plastic yogurt cups

This is a free event on Tuesday, May 30 from 6:30-8PM at HCHS Football Stadium for current 2nd thru 7th graders who are interested in playing football next Fall at Holland Christian. Whether you are just curious about playing or all-in, come on out for a fun night of knockerball, dodgeball, air force football, and ice cream sundaes. This is a fun way to meet the coaches, players, and parents who are involved in HCS Football at different levels. Kids will be split by age group for competitions (2nd/3rd, 4t/5th, 6th/7th). Parents are encouraged to attend at the end of the event as there will be a time of Q&A with the coaches, staff, and players. We hope to see everyone there, Go Maroons!!!

Final Forms Athlete Registration is ready for the 23-24 school year. Parents need to log into their account and select the sports their child is interested in participating in. Please do this now so coaches can communicate summer opportunities. Your 23-24 MHSAA Pre-Participation Physical can be completed anytime between now and the start of the next sport season. Your physical form should be printed from your Final Forms account after your forms have been completed. You can then upload a scan or photo of your 1 page completed physical form to your child's FF account.

maroonsathletics.org/ Registration - Our Middle School teams are officially moving from the MKO Conference to the West Michigan Middle School Conference (WMMSC) for the 23-24 school year. All 14 MKO schools have been accepted along with Zeeland Christian from the AOK league. The WMMSC now has a total of 38 member middle schools. Our travel will be significantly reduced with our new 7 team "Southwest Division" for the bulk of our event scheduling. These schools are West Ottawa, Hamilton, Holland, HC, ZC, Creekside & Cityside.
- Holland Christian will be competing with WMMSC tennis schools who mirror the HS season. Boys MS tennis will now be in the fall and girls MS tennis will now be in the spring. These seasons are updated on Final Forms for parents to see when they select sports for their 6th-8th grade children for the 23-24 school year. In order to plan effectively, it is important for MS tennis families to register on Final Forms as early as possible.
We are continuing with Eventlink for our schedules, tickets and passes for the 23-24 school year. Many of you have expressed how nice it is to use the app for practice and event calendars on your phone, especially with multiple children in sports. Schedules for 23-24 will be appearing soon and tickets/passes will be available after we get into the summer.
