27 de abril - 1 de mayo

¡Hola Familias!

Here we are, at the beginning of mayo (even though it doesn't really feel like it!)! We had a great week together with lots of learning and fun. On Tuesday, we had a beautiful visit at Benjamin's Hope, where we engaged in worship and learning together. Today, we enjoyed a crazy hair/hat day to celebrate reaching our April Spanish goal. We have continued to make lots of progress in speaking, listening, reading, and writing!

Here are more updates from our week...

Reading / Lectura: We have been learning the syllables with the letter x: xa, xe, xi, xo, xu. We've also been working on reading and talking about our learning with nonfiction books.

Writing / Escritura: This week we continued with our nonfiction book writing. Using our "fact sheets" we'd written about our topics, we wrote books and shared them with the class. I heard a lot of students make comments like "I like writing this book!" (in Spanish, of course!). They had a blast writing about something they were experts in and then sharing their writing with friends.

Math / Matemáticas: We've been exploring 3D and 2D shapes, writing and counting from 1-100 by 10s, 5s, and 1s, and solving larger addition and subtraction problems through 10.

Bible / Biblia: This week we finished our Old Testament study with the story of Jonás. We learned how God gives us second chances, and how he can use us to help other people even when we aren't perfect ourselves. We also talked about how ALL of the stories in the Old Testament, and the words of los profetas, pointed to the central focus of the Bible--Jesus! Next week we'll start learning more about Jesus' miracles and parables.

Science / Ciencias: We've been continuing to talk about las plantas and what they need to grow. We planted some bean seeds and are watching some of them start to sprout!

Immersion Tip of the Week

Make a connection with our Bible lesson this week. Can your child find one of the stories we've read in class in a Bible story book at home? Have your child tell you what he/she remembers about the story. Read it again together, either in Spanish or in English!

Reading Tip of the Week

You should be SO proud of your child for how much growth he/she has made this year, both in Spanish AND in reading! Have your child "show off" to you by reading some book bag books in Spanish sometime this weekend. Give your child lots of praise for great work!
