13-17 de mayo

¡Hola Familias!

Here we are, closing out another great week in Kindergarten! Today I had a chance to meet the new kindergarteners who are coming next year, and I told my students that they are almost ready for FIRST GRADE! Can you believe it?! It has been such a wonderful year, and I am so thankful to have had the privilege to work with your child.

Among our highlights of the week were barn chores, our trip to Tunnel Park to learn about how we can be "creation keepers", a special chapel with local artist Joel Schoon-Tanis, and a fun activity learning how to make tortillas from some friends from Mexico who visited our classroom! Here are more details about our week...

Reading / Lectura: This week we have been learning words with the /rr/ sound in the middle of the word. We've also been focusing on characters in the books we read, asking questions like "What does the character do and say?", "How do the characters feel?", and "Where does the story take place?"

Writing / Escritura: We have been starting to work on opinion writing this week! We've been working on using the phrase A mí me gusta... (I like...), including the important word porque (because). We played some games to practice this, and we have also been answering writing prompts where the kids explain their preferences.

Math / Matemáticas: We have been working on mini-books that focus on numbers 11-20 this week. We've also been playing the "secret part" game to figure out an unknown part of a number, and we've been working on solving larger addition and subtraction problems.

Bible / Biblia: We are continuing to learn about Jesus' miracles and parables, including the miracle of the coin found in the fish's mouth and the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Holland Christian Schools has two scholarships that we would love to have you take a look at if your family qualifies, for this upcoming year:

  • The Hendershot Family Fund Scholarship was established to assist families who demonstrate financial need through completing a Tuition Grant Fund application and also have a child who qualifies for Educational Support Services (ESS) at Holland Christian Schools. If your family meets these two requirements, you can apply to be considered for this scholarship through the Hendershot Family Fund application form until May 17.

  • The Dave Slenk Memorial Scholarship was established to assist families who currently work in law enforcement and are enrolled at HC in K-12th grade. If your family meets these requirements, you can apply to be considered for this scholarship through the Dave Slenk Memorial Scholarship application form until May 17.

The fourth grade plant sale is coming to Rose Park on May 22 starting at 7:30am.  They will be selling tomatoes, peppers, basil, cilantro and rosemary.  All plants will be $2.00 per pot, cash or check only.  Mark your calendars!

Have a great weekend! Enjoy some more photos from our week below.
