¡Feliz viernes! Happy Friday! We had a great week in Kindergarten. Yesterday we had a wonderful celebration with our abuelos (grandparents). What a beautiful testimony that su amor perdura para siempre--His love endures forever!
This week we also worked with our buddy classes to learn about la gente indígena--Indigenous people--who used to live in Michigan. We helped our buddies decorate canoas for a special craft project. The kids loved it so much, we gave them extra copies to take home! :)
Here is some more information about what we've been learning this week:
Reading / Lectura: This week we studied the letters R, S, T, U, and V. We've also been learning the difference between singular and plural nouns and working on reading words by sounding them out.
Writing / Escritura: We are still writing about la familia! This week the kids worked on the important skill of stretching words out to hear their individual sounds. They are growing in confidence to start writing words on their own!
Math / Matemáticas: This week we explored some math tools, creating models with them. We are also working on cardinality, which is counting groups of objects, focusing on pointing to each object as we count.
Bible / Biblia: This week we continued learning about la creación, or creation. We learned how God created las plantas on day 3, el sol, la luna, y las estrellas on day 4, los pájaros y los peces on day 5, and las personas y los animales on day 6. God then rested on day 7--and saw that all He created was good!
One of my favorite parts about teaching immersion is finding creative ways to incorporate language into our everyday activities. For example, when we're having lunch, I like to ask the kids to identify colores, formas (shapes), and other adjectives like caliente/frío (hot/cold), suave/duro (soft/hard), and dulce/salado (sweet/salty). The kids really enjoy showing me things they have for lunch that fall into different categories! Try this at home and ask your kids what words in Spanish they'd use to describe their food.
Reading Tip of the Week
When reading a book this week, see if your child can identify some letters. Practice the name of the letters (in English OR Español) and the sound that it makes. It's OK if the letter makes a different sound in English than in Spanish; just tell your child that some letters made different sounds in different languages. ;)

Ranch Hands: We’d love to have a few additional families join our Ranch Hands team to help care for the goats and chickens on the weekends. Families typically claim one weekend at a time, making it an easy way to pitch in and care for our Ranch animals. If this is something your family would be willing to do, please let Ms. Roskamp know! We’re happy to train you and get you started!
Carpool - Please make sure to pull all the way forward in the morning and afternoon drop off and pick up! Parents, please stay in your cars and have your students jump out quickly in our morning drop off lane! Our afternoon carpool has been running well, so please use the Rose Park carpool lane as much as possible, to allow efficiency for all!
