26-29 de mayo

¡Hola Familias!

Here we are, almost at the end of the school year--only 2.5 days left! We were busy with lots of things this week! On Wednesday, we had a beautiful opportunity to pack shoe boxes for Samaritan's Purse with Mrs. Bos's mom and our other kindergarten friends. We also had a fun (and tiring!) field day with lots of fun games and activities, and we celebrated our dear gym teacher Ms. Raak who is retiring at the end of the year. On Thursday, we had a final celebration and time of play with our 3rd grade buddies. And today, we had the opportunity to celebrate our SI fifth graders, who will be heading to the Middle School next year!

It is a bittersweet time as we near the end of the school year. We have had so many special moments together, and I will miss this sweet and energetic group of kids so much!

Here are some more updates on our week...

Reading / Lectura: We did some fun read-alouds this week, spent time reading alone and with a partner, and continued our study on characters. We also practiced las vocales y los consonantes (vowels and consonants), as well as the phrase "A mí me gusta" (I like...), which is a common error for Spanish language learners.

Writing / Escritura: We started writing opinion books this week about mis favoritos--our favorite things! They will go in our final writing portfolios, which the kids will receive next week to take home.

Math / Matemáticas: We spent time reviewing numbers 1-100, parts of 10, 2D and 3D shapes, and had fun doing math centers.

Bible / Biblia: We wrote about our favorite Bible stories for our Kindergarten Faith Writing, which will go in your child's records. They did a beautiful job with these! We also had a chance to study a few more of Jesus' miracles and parables.

Book Bag Books

I forgot to mention this earlier, but if your child has books from his/her book bag that you are no longer reading at home, please feel free to return them to school! We will save them for incoming kindergarten students. :) If you are still reading them, you are welcome to keep them!

NWEA (MAP) Scores

Your child brought home an envelope today with some information about his/her MAP testing scores. There is some information about how your child did on this standardized test as well as his/her growth throughout the year (measured by these test scores). Let me know if you have any questions!

Math Books

I was piloting a new math curriculum starting in January, so we didn't finish using our math workbooks. I am sending them home with your child. Feel free to use them for summer practice! ;)

Operation Christmas Child

I loved this field trip! There will be a "Christmas in July" activity over the summer for moms and kids to pack shoe boxes together (I believe around July 21st or so?). Let me know if you would like more details!

Rosie & Parker at Critter Barn - Our dear goats Rosie and Parker will be spending their summer at the Critter Barn. If you want to visit them and show them some love this summer we would love for your family to pay them a visit!

From the Office

  • June 3: Last Day of School 1/2 day

      • Preschool celebration at 9:00am

      • Final Chapel at 10:30am

      • Y5-5th Grade dismissal at 11:30am

  • GUINEA PIG SUMMER CARE - Stormi is interested in having a few sleepovers this summer.  She is super easy to host, and only requires attention every few days.  (However, she might occupy your children for quite a while - just think of all that you could accomplish😉!)  All supplies are included.  Commitment is as little as two weeks, but may be longer if you desire.  Please check out this signup to see if you can help out in any way this summer.  Thanks so much!

Lunch accounts: Friendly reminder to please make sure your lunch account balances are in the positive as we end the school year. Please log into your accounts to take care of paying lunch fees. If you have any questions please contact cachterhof@hollandchristian.org.

That's all for this week! See you next week for the last couple of days of school! More photos below (and on Smugmug):
