What a fantastic week! We have been BUSY! On Monday, our class had barn chores for the first time, and the kids LOVED meeting Rosie, Parker, and our 3 resident chickens! On Wednesday, we had a great time at the Walkathon and enjoyed beautiful weather! I enjoyed seeing many of you Thursday at our Fall Fest as well--what a great week!
Here's a glimpse of other things we've been learning...
Reading / Lectura: We are chugging through the alphabet! This week we learned the letters N, Ñ, O, P, and Q. We've also been learning about sustantivos (nouns) in Spanish and how they have articles el or la. Finally, we are practicing growing our "reading muscles" by reading for longer stretches at a time, reading with partners, and looking for letters we know in our books.
Math / Matemáticas: This week we worked on recognizing groups of numbers without counting. We're also working on counting and one-to-one correspondence.
Bible / Biblia: This week we finished learning about the Spiritual Practices of being still and listening to God. We are now starting a unit about God's creation. We are making a creation book and learning about how God made luz/oscuridad (light/darkness) and cielo/agua (sky/water).
Immersion Tip of the Week
You may start to notice that some of Spanish reading instruction looks a little different from English reading instruction--for example, Spanish reading relies heavily on syllable blending. Even though some of the phonics and strategies are different from English, many strategies--such as comprehension of text and using picture clues--are the same and will transfer to English.
Reading Tip of the Week
Let's keep it simple this week--just READ together! Don't underestimate the power of reading with your child! If you have not already, incorporate reading books into your daily routine. Apart from its academic benefits, it is a wonderful opportunity to slow down and bond with your child!
Calabazas!
Fall is here! During the fall season, I like to set up some math centers with calabazas, or pumpkins, that can be used for different activities. Are you going to the Farmer's Market this weekend or somewhere with calabazas? If so, I would love it if you'd like to donate some mini pumpkins to the classroom! Any size or shape is fine. I'd love to do a pumpkin painting activity if we have someone willing to donate white mini pumpkins to our classroom as well. Please let me know if you are willing to help with this. ¡Muchas gracias!
Field Trip to Farmer's Market: October 7th
I am still in need of chaperones for our field trip on Wednesday morning, October 7th. We will leave around 8:45 and arrive back to school around 10. Let me know if you can help out that day!

Grandparents Day! We are excited to welcome Grandparents and Grandfriends to Rose Park on the morning of October 1st (see schedule in the image above). We plan to have some treats available for Grandparents to enjoy in the library - if you would be willing to volunteer or provide treats please take a look at the sign up genius!
Ranch Hands: We’d love to have a few additional families join our Ranch Hands team to help care for the goats and chickens on the weekends. Families typically claim one weekend at a time, making it an easy way to pitch in and care for our Ranch animals. If this is something your family would be willing to do, please let Ms. Roskamp know! We’re happy to train you and get you started!
Carpool - Please make sure to pull all the way forward in the morning and afternoon drop off and pick up! Parents, please stay in your cars and have your students jump out quickly in our morning drop off lane!
Pokemon Cards- What a fun and exciting thing to have, share, discuss, and trade. At school we’ve noticed that this has caused some disruptions to learning, hard feelings over trades, bent or lost cards, etc. If you would help us out by having these be a fun home activity, we would appreciate it! At recess we’ll encourage your children to run and play!
