We have had a great week! Some of our highlights were our field trip to the Farmer's Market on Wednesday, learning about our October Discipleship Practice of Wisdom Seeking with our other Kindergarten friends on Thursday, and planting seeds and painting pumpkins (calabazas) today!
Here is more information about our week...
Reading / Lectura: We are almost finished with the whole alfabeto! This week we studied w, x, y, and z. Next week we'll explore a couple of digraphs/double letters in Spanish. We have also been working on "reading" books by looking at pictures and using the vocabulary that we already know.
Writing / Escritura: We are wrapping up our unit on la familia. This week we practiced adding more detail to our work, and then we chose our favorite piece and filled out a rubric evaluating our work. We will share with the class next week!
Math / Matemáticas: This week we have focused on counting from 1-30, writing numbers and groups of numbers from 1-10, identifying groups, and learning the vocabulary más (greater/more) and menos (less).
Bible / Biblia: This week we wrapped up on unit on la creación, or creation. The kids had fun exploring different centers related to God's creation. We also planted seeds in the greenhouse--ejotes (beans) and pepino (cucumber)--so we can watch them grow and continue to marvel at God's amazing creation!
Science / Ciencias: We did more exploring of los cinco sentidos (the five senses) at the Farmer's Market on Wednesday. We also had a fun "sniff test" of different items, such as coffee beans, apple cider vinegar, cocoa powder, and more--practicing the vocabulary huele bien / huele mal (it smells good/bad).
Immersion Tip of the Week
I am gradually starting to require more and more Spanish to be spoken in the classroom. Remind your child that he/she already has A LOT of vocabulary, even though sometimes he/she won't know the exact word to use. Ask your child how to describe an object in Spanish, using colors, shapes, numbers, and adjectives like big/small, hot/cold, hard/soft, fast/slow, etc. I think you will be impressed!
Reading Tip of the Week
When you read with your child, encourage your child to look for words, vowels, sounds, and/or syllables that he/she knows. As they begin learning to read, the students will become much more aware of print. Call their attention to features of the text in a fun, non-pressured way as you enjoy a book together.
Parent Helper Opportunities!
I am looking for parent helpers for two opportunities coming up: our class alphabet party coming up on Wednesday, October 21st, and an upcoming field trip to Benjamin's Hope on Monday, November 23rd (8:45-11:00am)!
