¡Hola Familias! 

We had another great week of fun and learning together! Although I was not in school for the beginning of the week, the kids were so excited to tell me about all they had done when I came back! 

On Monday this week, the class enjoyed fun field-day activities run by Spanish Immersion students from the Unified class at the High School.

On Wednesday, the kindergarten classes took a field trip to Bill's Greenhouse, where they learned about seeds, plants, and flowers, as well as completed their Mother's Day gifts (hope you like them, moms!). Did you know that this field trip has been going on for over 25 years, and that the greenhouse has ALWAYS donated the flowers for the students' Mother's Day gifts? I encourage you to stop by this amazing business and check out the other beautiful flowers and plants they have for sale!

Also, I would like to say a huge "thank you" for all of the notes, words of encouragement, gifts, and goodies you all showered me with this week for Teacher Appreciation week. It is such a joy for me to teach every one of these sweet kids!

Here are more updates from the week...

Reading / Lectura: This week we learned the syllables with the digraph /ch/: cha, che, chi, cho, chu. We also concluded our nonfiction unit by sharing what we learned when we read nonfiction books together and on our own.

Writing / Escritura: We've been finishing our nonfiction animal books! This week we added diagrams, details, and worked on revising our work.

Math / Matemáticas: This week we continued to practice shapes, addition and subtraction problems, and the numbers from 11-20.

Bible / Biblia: We have learned a few of Jesus' parables this week, including the Good Samaritan (el buen samaritano) and the Lost Sheep (la oveja perdida).

Science / Ciencias: We've been learning about the similarities and differences between animals and plants, and what each one needs to survive.

Immersion Tip of the Week

Make a connection with our Bible lesson this week. Can you find one of Jesus' miracles in a Bible you have at home? Have your child tell you what he/she remembers about the story. Read the story again together, either in Spanish or in English!

Reading Tip of the Week

You should be SO proud of your child for how much growth he/she has made this year, both in Spanish AND in reading! Have your child "show off" to you by reading some book bag books in Spanish sometime this weekend. Give your child lots of praise for great work!

¡Hola Familias!

It's been a full and busy week! Things can get pretty hectic as we wrap up the last few weeks of school, but I am also trying to slow down and enjoy every moment with this sweet class! I will miss them a lot next year!

This week we said adiós to our friend Maestra Kayla, a student intern from the high school who has been helping out this semester. The kids have loved getting to know her and having her visit us every Tuesday and Thursday. 

We also had a wonderful time at the Outdoor Discovery Center on Wednesday, where we participated in a nature scavenger hunt and enjoyed lots of outdoor play.

Here are some more updates from our week...

Reading / Lectura: We studied the syllables with x and w this week. We've also been focusing on the verbs gustar and encantar, which mean "I like..." and "I love...". We are also learning about how we can talk about similarities and differences between two books.

Writing / Escritura: We are working on our animal research books! This week we completed our table of contents, or tabla de contenido, and started the writing process.

Math / Matemáticas: We are continuing to work on the parts of 10, 2D and 3D shapes, and numbers from 11-20.

Bible / Biblia: This week we have continued our study of milagros y parábolas de Jesús. We learned about the miracles of Jesus walking on water, healing the blind man, and making a coin appear in the mouth of a fish.

Science / Ciencias: We did some learning in the invernadero (greenhouse) this week learning about plants. We learned about what plants need to survive: agua, aire, tierra, y sol. 

Half Day Thursday

On Thursday, May 11, school will be in session on a half day schedule due to the Tulip Time Kinderparade.

Buses will run in the AM ONLY. There will be no shuttle or route buses running after school. Students will need to find alternate transportation home on this day.

Service Opportunity!

Dear Rose Park Families,

We have the opportunity to bless and support area special needs families through a joint project by two local nonprofits: thelucasproject.org and A Kid Again. The Lucas Project was begun by one of our new Rose Park families and Ms. Scott's class will be helping to pack these care packages on June 1. Any gifts, either purchased through the Amazon Wish List or monetary donations given at https://thelucasproject.org  website, will be welcomed and used to encourage caregivers of special needs and their entire family. What a wonderful way to share God's love with others as we end our school year. Please see the attached flyer for additional information.

Summer Camp Supplies Needed

Summer is almost here and we are enthusiastically preparing for summer camp! If you would be willing to help us out with some recyclables between now and the end of the year our camp kids would appreciate it! 

Here is a general list that you can send with your kiddos to school at any point between now and June 1st. 

*Rinsed and clean bottle caps (Any size or color)

*Any size cardboard tubes (toilet, paper towel, etc...)

*cardboard boxes (cereal, granola bar, fruit snack, etc..)

*Cleaned (with soap and water) plastic yogurt cups
