18-22 de marzo

¡Hola Familias!

What a great week! We've been making lots of growth and having fun learning and playing together! As spring break is on the horizon, we have a lot to celebrate together!

Here's what we've been up to this week...

Lectura / Reading: This week we studied the syllables ja, je, ji, jo, ju, as well as ge, gi--all of which make a hard /h/ sound in Spanish. We have also been focusing on the verb estar in Spanish, which is one form of "to be".

Escritura / Writing: We continued our instructivo, or how-to, unit by writing about how to make sandwiches and making chocolate caliente! Now we are starting to think about things we know how to do: build a snowman, draw a house, build a paper airplane, make a s'more, and more!

Math / Matemáticas: This week we have continued practicing the parts of 10, as well as solving number stories, counting to larger numbers, and solving addition and subtraction facts.

Bible / Biblia: We began our huevos de la resurrección (Resurrection Eggs) project this week! Every day we talk about one element of the story of Jesus' resurrection. The kids are excited to work on this as they learn about how much Jesus loves us.

Immersion Tip of the Week

When your child brings home work from school (from any subject), ask him/her to be the "teacher" and tell you about it. Ask questions and let your child be the expert! Show your child how proud and impressed you are by his/her growing language skills.

Reading Tip of the Week

You already know that reading to your child is critically important, but did you also know that talking to your child is just as important? When we engage in conversation, we model language, taking turns, eye contact, listening behaviors, comprehension, and good manners. Take some time to talk to your child this weekend. Ask about his/her favorite activities in school, games to play on the playground, or just play together!

P/T Conferences

I truly enjoyed meeting with many of you this past Thursday, and I look forward to the opportunity to connect with the rest of you this coming Monday! Please let me know if anything changes with your scheduled conference time. We have much to celebrate!

Field Trip to Ramirez Bakery

Next week on Tuesday, we will be visiting Ramirez Bakery to learn about typical Mexican pan dulce, or sweet bread. It will be a fun trip for everyone! Please send $1 with your child that day to "buy" a cookie that he/she will help make! I can also take 2 parent volunteers--let me know if you are interested! We will leave at around 10:20 and arrive back at school around 11:20 or so.

Barn Chores

If you are able to help out with barn chores this coming Tuesday morning, please let me know! I can have 2-3 parent helpers.

Rose Park (rescheduled) Family Festival: The Fall Family Festival has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 18 from 5:30-7. If you had registered for this fun family gathering in the Fall, your registration automatically transferred to the Spring. If you haven’t registered and would like to attend with your family, cost is $10 per family and you can contact Jennifer Neumann @ jsneumann12@gmail.com .

BOOK FAIR COMING SOON!

Dear Parents and Families: Get ready! New books to encourage your student's love for reading are coming! Here's what you need to know about our upcoming Book Fair: Dates: April 24-26 from 11 am - 4 p.m. at the Intersection in Rose Park!

Every dollar you spend will benefit our school library directly! This is our only fundraiser to add new books to the library. Last year our library gained 300 new books because of this fundraiser!

You can sign up for Book Fair eWallet on April 3 or later—a convenient digital payment account, so your child can shop the Fair cash-free. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute to the eWallet to help build your home library. To sign up, link to the Book Fair Homepage and scroll to the bottom of the page.  Sign up begins April 3.

Book Fair Homepage: It's Book Fair Time!

We can’t wait to see your child at the Fair!

Spring Break

...is right around the corner! Remember that we have no school next Friday, March 29th, and we will resume class on Monday, April 8th. Have a wonderful and restful vacation!
