Here's what we've been up to this week...
Reading / Lectura: This week we reviewed the syllables that make the sound /k/ with the letters c, k, and q(u). We've also been learning to differentiate between fiction and nonfiction books and talking about what we can learn from nonfiction books.
Writing / Escritura: We wrapped up our how-to unit this week! The kids finished and revised their own books giving instructions on how to do something, like put on snow clothes, make a pizza, make a s'more, or wash their hands. Then, we read them to our classmates.
Math / Matemáticas: We are practicing telling and modeling addition and subtraction stories using counters and pictures of scenes. This is a great unit for kids to work on developing their math vocabulary.
Bible / Biblia: This week we went back to the Old Testament to continue learning about a couple of minor characters in Israel's history, the boy king Josías and Ester, the brave queen. We also learned how the Israelitas were taken captive into Babylon. We can see how even throughout these difficult times, God was always faithful--and he still is today!
Science & Social Studies / Ciencias y Estudios Sociales: We've been learning about nuestro mundo, or our world. We've been reading nonfiction books about the Earth, seasons, weather, and more, and we're learning about God's amazing creation.
Field Trip to Taquería Azteca
We will be taking another field trip to Taquería y Tienda Azteca on Wednesday, May 6th. We'll plan on leaving around 9:15am and returning to school around 11:15. I can take up to 4 parent volunteers--if you are interested, please let me know! I'll try to give first priority to parents who didn't get to go to Ramirez Bakery, so if this is you please let me know ASAP if you are interested in accompanying us. :)
123Andrés in Concert!
Check out this great opportunity (below) to see 123Andrés in concert with the Grand Rapids Symphony! We listen to TONS of their music in class, and they put on a great bilingual show for kids!

Book Fair: Exciting news… we have a new book fair company this year—Literati—and the online fair is officially live! Shopping online is a great way to find books that won’t be available at the in-person fair. It’s also the best way to purchase from teacher wishlists, since some of those titles may not be on-site. A special bonus: Gift cards are available online! This makes it easy for students to shop at the fair without bringing cash to school. Start browsing here: https://literati.com/store/?school=rose-park-christian-school-holland-mi Happy reading!
On Thursday, April 23 we will host “Lunch with a Loved One” from 11:15-12:15 in the small gym. This is a time to join your student(s) for lunch and to shop the book fair together!
Additional in-person book fair hours will be: Wednesday April 22 from 2-4pm, Thursday April 23 from 10:30-12:30 & 2-4pm, Friday April 24 from 2-4pm; we would love to have you stop by at any of those times.
